Environmental situation and political agenda: The Council of Permanent Representatives of the CIS countries holds a meeting in Vitebsk
A field meeting of the Council of Plenipotentiary Representatives of the CIS Member States to the Charter and Other Bodies of the Commonwealth is taking place at the Vitebsk State University named after P.M. Masherov.
The meeting is being held in a somewhat unusual format. It has become the third field meeting of the CIS plenipotentiary representatives. This tradition is expected to be maintained in the future. "We would like the ambassadors extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the CIS countries accredited in the Republic of Belarus to be able to see the economic potential of our country directly on the ground, to get acquainted with the socio-economic and cultural life of the regions, with the potential for possible cooperation of their countries with the regions of Belarus," noted the First Deputy Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee, Leonid Anfimov.
Members of the Council of Plenipotentiary Representatives are discussing several issues, including the work of the Interstate Ecological Council of the CIS countries. They will also form a draft agenda for the meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the CIS: this meeting will be held in October in Nur-Sultan. Among other things, the parties will discuss the implementation of the action plan for holding the Year of Folk Art and Cultural Heritage in the Commonwealth in 2022. This plan includes 89 events of a general humanitarian nature aimed at preserving the traditions of folk art, historical and cultural heritage, cultural heritage in the arts, literature, as well as in sports and tourism.
"The issue related to the environmental situation in the Commonwealth countries and in the world as a whole is very topical for our country and for Russia, - said Leonid Anfimov. - We see that some regions are flooded, while others experience mass fires. And climate change affects not only regional countries, but entire continents, all of Europe is burning."
