The expert examination found the pensioner who killed the hostage in the Sennensky district to be insane

The Vitebsk Regional Court is considering the case of a pensioner who took hostages in the Sennensky district and killed one of them. This was announced today at a press conference by Vladimir Shalukhin, head of the Investigative Committee Department for the Vitebsk Region, according to a BELTA correspondent.

An investigation was conducted, during which the man's involvement in this crime was established, as well as the fact that he suffers from a mental illness in the form of delusional disorder and could not, either at the time of the crime or at the present moment, comprehend the social danger of his actions. The case has been sent to court for a decision on his compulsory treatment. The trial in the Vitebsk Regional Court began on January 14.

As previously reported, on the evening of June 4, 2012, in the Sennensky district of the Vitebsk region, a 62-year-old resident of the village of Rulyevshchina broke into the house of a 58-year-old man from the neighboring village of Staraya Belitsa. Threatening the villager and his two daughters with a knife, the man, who was in an inadequate state, demanded a meeting with various top-level state administration officials. One of the owner's daughters managed to run out of the house and call the police. At 01:30, the homeowner, taking advantage of the attacker's weakened attention, also managed to escape, leaving his elder daughter, born in 1991, alone with the captor in the house. Arriving law enforcement officers took measures to free the hostage, but negotiations did not lead to positive results. A decision was made to storm the house, as a result of which the attacker was detained. At the same time, he managed to kill the girl. A criminal case was initiated against the detainee under Part 2 of Article 139 of the Criminal Code (murder), Vladimir Shalukhin recalled.

Assessing the actions of law enforcement officers, the head of the department recalled that one can speak of a crime only if there is a corpus delicti. "Investigators found no criminal act in the actions of law enforcement officers," he emphasized.
