Exhibition of partisan dugouts, a letter to a veteran: an updated Museum of People's Glory opened in Ushachi
The building of the Museum of People's Glory named after Hero of the Soviet Union Vladimir Eliseevich Lobanok has been opened in Ushachi after major repairs and modernization.
The Ushachi Museum of People's Glory was founded in 1968. History enthusiasts visited the new building, constructed to a special design, on May 9, 1985. The facade of the building was decorated by artist Yuri Lyubimov. The authorship of the lobby decoration belongs to monumental artist Vladimir Krivoblotsky. His monumental fresco "For the Sake of Life on Earth," consisting of the compositions "Fascism Shall Not Pass," "Bread of the Ushachi Land," "Liberation," "Struggle for Life," and "The Collapse of Fascism," is displayed over an area of 320 sq.m. In 1999, the cultural institution was named after the legendary commander of the Polotsk-Lepel partisan zone, Hero of the Soviet Union Vladimir Lobanok. Major repairs have been carried out over the past three years, and today, after extensive work, the museum has warmly welcomed visitors.
The Ushaсhy Museum of National Glory is rightly called the heart of the district. It houses four exhibition halls dedicated to the history of the partisan movement in Ushaсhy during the Great Patriotic War, a partisan art gallery, and an exhibition hall. The cultural institution's collections include materials on the historical past of the district, the revolutionary events of 1917, the Civil War, collectivization, the repressions of the 1930s, the beginning of the partisan movement in the region, and the struggle of partisans and the population of the Ushaсhy partisan zone against the Nazi invaders.
Guests from other districts and from the Pskov region were able not only to take a tour but also to see an exhibition of partisan dugouts and partisan life, and to participate in the "Letter to a Veteran" campaign. Before the opening ceremony, a children's drawing exhibition "War Childhood" was available in the museum building.
"We are very pleased to see that you so carefully preserve the memory of the military exploits of your countrymen and pass on respect for the history of your native land to the younger generation," said Vera Emelyanova, First Deputy Governor of the Pskov Region, presenting gifts to the cultural institution. -0-
