Power supply to more than 600 settlements in the Vitebsk region has been restored in the last three days
Power supply to over 600 settlements in the Vitebsk region has been restored over the past three days, reports the Telegram channel of RUP "Vitebskenergo".
On December 29, the region experienced strong gusts of wind, freezing rain, and severe ice. Power line wires became covered with a thick layer of ice and broke. Even reinforced concrete poles broke under the immense load. Trees fell en masse, causing damage to wires.
The restoration time for damaged power lines was significantly increased due to power lines running through hard-to-reach marshy areas, and blockages formed by fallen trees on roads and clearings, which hindered the movement of special equipment.
As of January 1, 18:00, restoration work is ongoing in settlements of the Orsha, Gorodok, and Liozno districts. Some power lines had to be rebuilt almost from scratch. In the process of eliminating the consequences of the natural disaster, energy workers removed several thousand fallen trees from power lines.
Work continues until all consumers are connected.
