The flu epidemic in Vitebsk is expected only at the beginning of 2013
The incidence of acute respiratory infections does not exceed epidemic thresholds and is lower than in the same period last year. As informed by epidemiologist of the zonal center of hygiene and epidemiology Natalia Boldina, currently from 500 to 840 Vitebsk residents seek medical help daily due to seasonal illness. The absolute majority of them are children (63 percent).
Adenovirus, which causes catarrhal symptoms (runny nose, tearing, sore throat), is mainly circulating. Influenza virus has not been detected yet, an epidemic is expected in January-February this year.
