This summer, 29 suburban health resorts will operate in the Vitebsk region, with another 2 placed under conservation due to construction work on the Vitebsk Hydroelectric Power Station, Elena Andreykova, head of the representative office of the "Vitebsk Regional Department of the Republican Center for Health Improvement and Sanatorium-Resort Treatment of the Population," told a BELTA correspondent.

In addition to 29 stationary camps with almost 4850 places per shift, 13 additional camps will be opened on leased premises of boarding schools, rural schools, a tourist and health complex, and the "Vetraź" children's rehabilitation and health center, where over 2,000 children will spend their holidays. Furthermore, 650 day camps for schoolchildren are planned. Thus, a total of 42,000 children will be able to improve their health this summer.

"Two suburban camps will not open this season: 'Berezka' of OJSC 'Krasny Oktyabr' with 150 places and 'Zorka' of OJSC 'Stroitelny Trest No. 9 of Vitebsk' with 200 places. They have been placed under conservation due to construction work on the Vitebsk Hydroelectric Power Station being carried out on their territory," added Elena Andreykova.

Br965 million from state social insurance funds and almost Br3.6 billion from the regional budget have been allocated for the preparation and strengthening of the material and technical base of suburban health resorts. Object owners plan to spend about Br13 billion. Most will begin repairs and improvements after the May holidays. Acceptance will be completed before June 1, and the opening of the camps is planned according to established schedules.

The regional executive committee has set the maximum cost of one bed-day at Br165-180 thousand, depending on the availability of utilities. For self-supporting organizations, the cost of a voucher is determined by the owners - from Br3.6 million to Br4 million, of which Br1.4 million will be subsidized from the state social security budget, and the rest will be paid by parents and enterprises. District executive committees are seeking additional funds to pay for vouchers for orphans, children from single-parent and low-income families, and disabled individuals. Br25 million is planned to be spent on these purposes.
