The annual environmental operation 'Clean Air' has started in the city of Vitebsk and the Vitebsk region

Annually on June 1, the ecological operation "Clean Air" starts. Specialists note that in summer the intensity of traffic movement both in the regional center and in other cities increases. Annually on June 1, the ecological operation “Clean Air”. Specialists note that in summer the intensity of traffic movement both in the regional center and in other cities increases. This means that the probability of atmospheric air pollution increases due to CO and CH emissions contained in exhaust gases. Vehicles are considered the main atmospheric air pollutants. In the total volume of all harmful substances poisoning the atmosphere, emissions from transport account for 70 percent or more.

According to information received from the traffic police department of the regional executive committee, there are 93 thousand privately owned vehicles and 11 thousand vehicles owned by legal entities in Vitebsk. In the region, these figures are as follows: 350 thousand privately owned vehicles and 50 thousand vehicles owned by legal entities.

During the month-long campaign, traffic police officers and environmentalists will conduct joint raids to identify "smoking" vehicles. Transport organizations should pay special attention to adjusting the carburetors of vehicles before sending them on a trip. As noted by Valery Fando, head of the Vitebsk city inspection of natural resources and environmental protection, exceeding CO and CH in exhaust gases is fraught with punishment in the form of a fine of up to five basic units for an individual and up to 200 basic units for a legal entity.
