For the sixth time, Miory has gathered people who care, those who are concerned about our common future, for an environmental festival. As noted at the press conference by the Chairman of the Regional Council of Deputies, Vladimir Terentyev, the festival "Cranes and Cranberries of the Miory Region" has been included in the top 5 branded holidays of Belarus.

This year, delegations from the Russian Pskov region, led by the head of the district, Yuri Ilyin, as well as from the Gluboksky and Sharkovshchinsky districts, arrived at the holiday. The Deputy Permanent Representative of the United Nations Development Programme in Belarus, Zachary Taylor, UNDP project managers in our country, Igor Chulba and the "Peatlands-2" project, Alexey Artyushevsky, Deputy General Director of UP "Coca-Cola Beverages Belarus" Andrey Rashupkin, and Director of the public organization "Aхова птушак Бацькаўшчыны" (Birds of Prey Protection) Alexander Winchevsky also attended.

The holiday began with a press conference at the district executive committee, where the Chairman of the Regional Council of Deputies, Vladimir Terentyev, the head of the Miory district, Igor Kuznetsov, the chairman of the district council of deputies, Maria Bonifato, and the head of the Pskov district, Yuri Ilyin, answered questions from journalists and representatives of the delegations.

Then, the hosts and guests proceeded to the central square, where the opening of the sculptural composition "Crane Fidelity" took place. According to the authors' concept, it reflects the main symbol of the Miory land and simultaneously emphasizes the joint work of the local authorities and the UNDP in preserving the Yalnya bog.

Ecology as a culture of human activity should become the norm. The Miory Environmental Festival is the quintessence of what has been done in this direction over the past year. It is usually preceded by environmental weeks in schools, various events in cultural institutions, and thematic and practical competitions.

One of the most popular events is the individual and team cranberry picking competitions. This year, 8 teams and hundreds of pickers participated. Among the former, the education workers proved to be the most agile, while Valentina Parechnya won among the latter, having already collected about 200 kg of cranberries.

The ecological festival also serves as an occasion to summarize the results of competitions for the improvement of production sites, households, and the work of elders. In particular, the meat processing plant collective, OJSC "Turkovo," was recognized as the best. Among the dairy farms, the dairy farm "Starye Uzmiony" of OJSC "Uzmionsky Kray" was noted, among the machine yards – the yard of OJSC "Miory Rayagropromservis," and among schools and medical institutions – the Yasnenskaya ones.

The best private enterprise was named LLC "Obsterna," and the entrepreneur – the founder of the farm Nikolai Kovalenko. For good fulfillment of public duty, 10 elders were honored at the festival, and five homesteads were awarded the honorary title "House of Exemplary Order."

The owners of the rural homesteads participating in the "Zhuravliniy Kirmaš" (Cranberry Fair) competition eagerly awaited the results. Each tried to impress guests with their decorations, the variety of dishes, and to entertain with a good song and humor.

Students from the ecological class of the Germanovichi school, along with the country's best public ecologists, teachers Oksana Pachipko and Marina Fedorova, invited guests to the opening of an ecological trail to the Yelnia bog from the Sharkovshchyna district side. Nearby, at the "Generation NEXT" art site, young people learned to make paper cranes and rowan beadwork, city librarians introduced ecological literature, artisans demonstrated their crafts, and artistic groups, including the Daugavpils "Praleski," performed on stage, one after another.

Excursions were held around the visitor center of the "Yelnya" reserve, as well as trips to special observation points where it was possible to watch cranes.
