At the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, 33-year-old Andrei Pranevich from Polotsk won gold in the epee fencing among competitors in category "B".

Our compatriot won the final match against Ammar Ali from Iraq with a score of 15-14. In the decisive encounter, the rivals took turns leading, but the Belarusian finished the duel more confidently. Coach Semen Sushchin, who has been guiding him to this success for nine years, can rightfully share the athlete's joy.

Andrei Pranevich suffered a severe spinal injury at the age of 10 and has been wheelchair-bound ever since. He started fencing at the age of 24. In 2014, he became the European champion, and in 2015 and 2016, he won bronze medals at the World Championships and the European Championships, respectively.
