The finalists of the regional competition "Rescuers Through the Eyes of Children" have been determined in Vitebsk, Marina Fando, press secretary of the Vitebsk Regional Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, told a BELTA correspondent. The competition was held throughout February-March in the age groups from 5 to 11 years and from 12 to 16 years, so all interested children could participate. They were invited to realize their imagination and creative potential in the nominations "Poster", "Drawing", "Handicraft", "Firefighting Equipment Model", "Soft Toy" and "Logo". The best 18 works of children's creativity from each city and district, which passed the first qualifying round, were presented at the regional review. The works were supposed to reflect various aspects of the rescuers' activities. Many participants touched upon the theme of rescuing children from fire and water, and burning forests. Traditionally strong works were submitted from Lepel district, Vitebsk, and other regions of the oblast. The jury members had to work hard to select the most striking and unusual ones. For example, a batik painting with ceramic decorative elements by two 13-year-old girls from Vitebsk impressed the competition commission so much that this work was included among the prize-winners immediately after the city competition, without going through the regional stage. The 10 best works from the regional tour in each nomination will be presented at the republican competition, the results of which will be announced on April 17 in Minsk. -0-
