March 28, Minsk / Yulia Vanina - BELTA /. The final round of the republican subject Olympiad will be held in Belarus from March 29 to April 3, during the spring break. This was reported to BELTA correspondent by Yuri Gladkov, head of the general secondary education department of the Ministry of Education. This year, the Olympiad is held in 16 subjects. Competitions in Belarusian language and literature will be held in Mozyr, in Russian language and literature - in Grodno. Tournaments in mathematics, physics, and astronomy will take place in Vitebsk. The Olympiad in foreign languages will be held at the institutions of Bobruisk. Young programmers will gather in Brest. Chemists and biologists will demonstrate their knowledge and experience in conducting experiments at the educational institutions of Gomel. Young geographers, historians, and social scientists will participate in the Olympiad at the educational institutions of Baranovichi. Students will demonstrate their skills in labor training in Zhodino. Most competitions were held in two rounds - theoretical and practical. Since 2009, as part of the third and final stages of the republican geography Olympiad, an additional round of competitions in English has been held. Its purpose is to select students of grades 9-11 who know English for their subsequent preparation for participation in international geography Olympiads. Students complete written assignments in English, translate texts from international geographical journals. They are interviewed, including listening comprehension. By showing good knowledge of geography and English, students get the opportunity to join the system of in-depth preparation for international Olympiads. As Yuri Gladkov said, in 2010, the 60th republican mathematics Olympiad, the 49th - in physics, the 44th - in chemistry, the 27th - in foreign languages, the 26th - in Belarusian language, the 25th - in Russian language, the 23rd - in computer science, the 22nd - in biology, the 21st - in geography, the 16th - in astronomy, the 13th - in history, the 6th - in social studies and labor training will be held. Currently, a student's victory in the final stage of the Olympiad allows them to be enrolled in a specific faculty of a university. "But one should not forget that a contender for victory in a subject Olympiad must successfully complete more than 50% of the tasks," Yuri Gladkov reminded. According to him, the most successful rural student will also be awarded a special prize from the Minister of Education for each subject. By the way, about 1,500 students from all regions of Belarus will take part in this round, as well as the Lyceum of BSU. In addition, six schoolchildren from Moscow (Russia) will come to the competitions in Russian language and literature, and five students from Poland and three from Lithuania will test their knowledge in the Olympiad in Belarusian language and literature. During the final stage of the republican Olympiad, a cultural program is also planned, including visits to historical and memorable places, theaters and museums of the respective settlements, various excursions, and meetings and recreation evenings. As part of the final stage of the subject Olympiad, joint events with the pedagogical community and students of educational institutions are planned. -0-
