Finnish all-weather snow cannon is being tested at the biathlon base in Novopolotsk
A snow cannon rented in Finland, which works even at positive temperatures, is being tested at the base of the Novopolotsk State School of the Olympic Reserve, the director of the institution, Valery Gushchin, informed.
Today, students of the school went skiing at a temperature of plus 10 degrees Celsius and tested a track created with the help of the all-weather Snowgen-110 complex. This unit, which, by the way, provided competitions at the Sochi Olympics, was delivered to the institution's base on October 29. "The fact is that during the last days of the Biathlon World Championships in Raubichi, there were problems due to snow melting. And this unit can produce snow even at a temperature of plus 20 degrees Celsius. Therefore, by the decision of the Belarusian Biathlon Federation and with the assistance of its official sponsor, the scientific and production limited liability company 'OKB TSP', this complex was rented and brought to us for testing to ensure that it is suitable for use in our conditions," explained Valery Gushchin.
During this time, a 400 m ski track was prepared with a snow cover thickness of about 60 cm; its renewal is constantly ongoing, and it is planned to increase its length to 500 m. In general, the institution's management and students are satisfied with the result: the snow turned out to be good, and skis glide on it even faster than on natural snow. The operation of the unit was also appreciated by the guests of today's tests - the Secretary General of the Belarusian Biathlon Federation, Anatoly Stromsky, and the director of SPC "OKB TSP", Igor Goncharuk.
They concluded that the Finnish complex is worth renting when important competitions are held in Raubichi, and also spoke in favor of producing similar snow cannons in Belarus, as the technology is not that complicated. The tests of the Snowgen-110 complex in Novopolotsk will last until November 10.
