A flag, anthem, and sports grounds will appear in Postavy for the city's 600th anniversary
April 22, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. A flag, an anthem, a sports and recreation complex, and six sports grounds will appear in Postavy (Vitebsk region) by the city's 600th anniversary. The celebrations will take place from July 3 to 5 this year, Viktor Gutorov, Chairman of the Postavy District Executive Committee, told a BELTA correspondent.
The design of the city flag, based on the ancient coat of arms of Postavy, has already been approved by the Heraldic Council under the President of Belarus. However, the anthem is yet to be chosen. Five entries by local authors have reached the final of the competition. The best creative groups of the district, the folk choir of intelligentsia and the folk choir of war and labor veterans "Pamyat" took part in their recording. It is expected that the jury will announce the winner in the near future, and the city will receive its glorious song.
However, the most important thing for the residents of Postavy remains the improvement of their settlement. On the eve of the anniversary, special attention will be paid to the outskirts and the private sector. Well-equipped parking lots for vehicles and a gas station will appear here. Young residents of Postavy will receive six sports grounds as a gift. Enterprises in the district have already prepared parts for football goals, basketball backboards, and horizontal bars. The construction of the sports and recreation complex will be completed in the residential microdistrict this year. In the Year of the Native Land, it is planned to plant more than a thousand trees and shrubs and several tens of thousands of flowers in the district center, villages, and agro-towns. The residents of Postavy decided to earn money for the improvement through subbotniks (voluntary workdays).
The XII International Festival "Zvinyats' tymbaly i garmonik" (Ringing Cimbalom and Accordion), which will also take place from July 3 to 5, is timed to coincide with the celebration of the 600th anniversary.
In the 10th century, the village of Posadnik grew on the banks of the Myadzelka River. In 1409, its owner, Despot-Zenovich, received a charter from the Grand Duchy of Lithuania to upgrade the village to the status of a city, naming it Postavy. The city reached its peak in the 18th century under Antoni Tyzenhaus, vice-chancellor of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Under him, the first stone houses and the first enterprises appeared. -0-
