The Marc Chagall Foundation is being established in Vitebsk

March 17, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. The Marc Chagall Foundation is being established in Vitebsk. This was announced today at a press conference by the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Alexander Kosinets, reports a BELTA correspondent. The Vitebsk City Executive Committee and the Union of Belarusian Jewish Public Associations and Communities will participate in the creation of the foundation. Its main goal will be to perpetuate the memory of the brilliant artist in his homeland - Vitebsk. This primarily concerns the recreation of the Marc Chagall quarter on Pokrovskaya Street, where the artist's house has been preserved. The chairman of the regional executive committee also reported that the authorities are negotiating with the heirs of Marc Chagall about the possibility of exhibiting the master's original works in Vitebsk. So far, not a single original has been seen in the city where 15 canvases were created. Many projects similar to the recreation of the Marc Chagall quarter are being implemented in Vitebsk, aimed at creating tourism and leisure infrastructure. New recreation areas have appeared on the Vitba River, the cultural and leisure part of Victory Square has been improved, and the oldest street named after Suvorov has become pedestrian. This has given an impetus to the development of tourist and excursion services. In 2009, the volume of paid tourist and excursion services increased by Br2.7 billion compared to the previous year and amounted to Br10.2 billion, paid physical culture and sports services - by Br926 million to more than Br4 billion. -0-
