PHOTO FACT: Silver maples planted in the Park of 1000th Anniversary in Vitebsk as part of a city-wide volunteer clean-up day
The Park of the 1000th Anniversary became the center of attraction, where an alley of silver maples was planted. The Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee, Alexander Subbotin, emphasized that this is a symbolic project that will contribute to strengthening national unity.
– We want to make our city better and more beautiful. Today we are planting silver maples in the Park of the 1000th Anniversary, and according to specialists, the trees will grow to be short and spherical, I think it will be quite beautiful, – he added.
As part of the event, plans for the already under-construction Coat of Arms and Flag Square were discussed, which will become an important element for the city. Its construction will be completed next year.
The Chairman of the City Executive Committee, Alexey Geroev, noted that the city-wide clean-up event is the final stage of tidying up Vitebsk.
– Labor collectives of enterprises and organizations of the city are participating, – Alexey Geroev said. – Our main task is to remove garbage and prepare Vitebsk for the winter period. About 46,000 people are participating in the clean-up, together we will make our city clean and well-maintained.
The funds earned and collected from voluntary donations will be directed towards financing the repair, reconstruction, and restoration of historical and cultural values, memorial complexes, and sites of military glory associated with the Great Patriotic War. It is also planned to use the funds for the purchase and repair of small architectural forms, the organization of mass events, the improvement and landscaping of territories, and for the development of the city's cultural and tourist potential. In addition, part of the amount will be allocated to strengthening the material and technical base of the social sphere, which will improve the quality of life for citizens and create comfortable conditions for their leisure.
