Events dedicated to Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus, the 81st anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders in the Great Patriotic War, are taking place in Vitebsk.

A solemn laying of wreaths and flowers at the memorial complex in honor of Soviet soldiers-liberators, partisans and underground fighters of Vitebsk region on Victory Square has already taken place. The leadership of the region and the city, members of the Council of the Republic and deputies of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly, work collectives, and city residents took part in the rally.
