The photo exhibition "The Holocaust. A Look Through 65 Years" opened in Vitebsk
January 21, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. The photo exhibition "The Holocaust. A View After 65 Years" opened today at the Vitebsk Regional Museum of Local Lore, a BELTA correspondent reports.
The exhibition features about 70 works, which are divided into two parts. The first part includes black-and-white photographs taken in Vitebsk in 1941-1944. These are pictures of innocent victims from among the civilian population, Jewish ghettos, mass executions of prisoners, which German soldiers sent home as evidence of their military valor. Today, such photographs are kept in museums, archives, and private collections.
The second part of the exhibition consists of photographs taken in 2007-2009 in the cities and villages of the Dvina region. They depict monuments erected at the sites of mass executions of Holocaust victims, portraits of war veterans and Righteous Among the Nations, children and grandchildren of people who fought against fascism.
The purpose of the exhibition is to confront viewers with the question of whether they remember their history, the people who died at the hands of the Nazi invaders and defeated fascism. The exhibition is dedicated to the 65th anniversary of Victory. Its organizers are the public association "Jewish Cultural Center 'Mishpokha'" and the Vitebsk Regional Museum of Local Lore. -0-
