France is interested in intensifying cooperation with the Vitebsk region. This was stated today in Vitebsk by the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of France to Belarus, Didier Caness, during a working meeting with the Deputy Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Vladimir Penin.

The diplomat's visit to the northern region of Belarus is of an introductory nature. "However, the central theme of my mission is the development of economic relations. It is important to determine the potential of the Vitebsk region in areas of interest to French business, and to find common ground," emphasized Didier Caness. He promised to provide the necessary support in this direction from the embassy. Possible areas of mutual interest were outlined by Konstantin Cherny, Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Economy of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee. Among them are joint projects in flax processing.

The Vitebsk region pays close attention to this issue, and France possesses advanced technologies. Furthermore, cooperation in the field of pharmaceutical production appears promising. Annually, pharmaceutical raw materials worth about $20 million are supplied to the Vitebsk region by French manufacturers. All proposals for the development of bilateral trade and economic cooperation will be prepared and sent to the embassy in the near future. The diplomat paid close attention at the meeting to discussing issues related to the development of cooperation in the fields of culture and education.

In particular, he was interested in the participation of French representatives in the International Arts Festival "Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk," the organization of joint exhibition projects related to the names of Chagall and Malevich, and possible projects aimed at popularizing the French language and its study. The ambassador also has planned meetings with the leadership of the Vitebsk City Executive Committee, business representatives, and visits to the Vitebsk Art College, the Marc Chagall Museum, Gymnasium No. 9, and other facilities.
