The Prosecutor General and the Governor of the Vitebsk region helped the victim of a banking scammer
In Orsha, a flax mill worker came with her troubles to a meeting with two high-ranking officials: Alexander Kosinets, Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, and Alexander Konyuk, Prosecutor General of the Republic of Belarus. It was at the flax mill that they received people together for the first time to resolve some issues more effectively – on the spot.
The woman said that she was repaying a loan for an acquaintance, a former employee of the enterprise, who had asked her to be a guarantor. At first glance, everything was legal. However, during the conversation, it turned out that this applicant was not the only one returning other people's money to the bank with interest. The one who took out the loans had similarly "set up" others.
"She worked as a warehouse manager at our mill and asked me to be a guarantor. The loan amount was about $2,000, which she took from the bank in 2010. She paid for a year and then stopped. And the commercial bank obliged me, as a guarantor, to repay the money," the woman said.
According to her, she sought consultation at the court, where she was advised to write an application, but only after she had paid all the money to the bank.
The Prosecutor General immediately instructed law enforcement representatives present at the meeting to investigate. If, during the investigation, it is found that the "live-on-credit" enthusiast had actually deceived her fellow countrymen and did not intend to repay the money, she will be punished to the fullest extent of the law. And surely she has no sources of income or property to pay the bank herself?
Three women raised the issue of the need to repair the bridge over the Dnieper at the meeting.
"The bridge is in a dilapidated state. This issue has been raised repeatedly, but the reconstruction has not yet begun. The situation is further aggravated by the fact that one of the pedestrian lanes is closed. It is difficult to move across the bridge during peak hours," the applicants said.
"We have closed one side for pedestrian traffic. The 150-meter-long bridge is literally crumbling, the fence is falling," commented a traffic police representative on their appeal.
"Today, without funding, it is impossible to start repairing the bridge. We have appealed to the Prime Minister," said the Chairman of the Orsha District Executive Committee.
The governor promised that the bridge reconstruction would be completed by 2015.
— An order has been given to close the bridge. A bypass to Shklov has been made. At today's prices, reconstruction will require up to 370 billion rubles. This issue has been discussed at various levels of government: so that the repair is financed half by the republican budget, as is usually done, and 50% by the regional one. If there is no funding from the republic, we will allocate the money ourselves, — said Alexander Kosinets.
— A new form of receiving citizens has been used at the plant — together with the governor. Last year, I received citizens with the head of the republican state control committee. And I saw that this form is effective, because it allows many problems to be solved on the spot, — summed up the results of the reception by the Prosecutor General.
