Heroes of Our Time
For the fifth time, the internal affairs department of the regional executive committee solemnly honored the heroes of the "Civil Courage" project - people who, risking their lives and health, helped catch a lawbreaker or prevent a crime.
– This is a very good trend: the number of concerned citizens is growing every year, – noted the head of the Internal Affairs Directorate, Igor Evseev, before the ceremony. – We receive information about drinking alcohol in courtyards – this means that citizens care about order and safety near their homes. The "hotline" is constantly working. Many report traffic safety violations on the "Perekhvat" website. If the information is confirmed, the perpetrators are punished. In 2012, about 50 people assisted in solving criminal offenses. We have already rewarded them, and today we will recognize the most worthy ones who took great risks, some even suffered injuries.
Among the awardees is Novopolotsk resident Nikolai Savchenko, who detained a thief in a store. The criminal actively resisted, hitting the volunteer guard several times. While the struggle was ongoing, the saleswomen called the police, and the offender was apprehended.
Igor Makhon, a student at Vitebsk State Vocational Lyceum No. 1, was not afraid of the criminal either. Walking late in the evening along one of the streets of the regional center, the young man heard cries for help. Running closer, Igor saw that a man had attacked a 15-year-old girl. The rapist, noticing him, got scared and hurried to escape. Having reported the incident to the police, I. Makhon ran after the criminal and later indicated his location to the officers. When the suspect was taken to the department, it turned out that he had been convicted of a similar offense five years ago. Despite the fact that the man has a wife and child, he has returned to his old ways. And if it weren't for the courage and competent actions of a passerby, it is unknown how it all would have ended.
Diplomas from the Internal Affairs Directorate and gifts were also awarded to Tatyana and Lyubov Bogdanova, who helped a victim and detained two criminals. The women were sitting in a cafe on Chernyakhovsky Avenue in Vitebsk when, before their eyes, two drunk citizens beat up a man and seized his property. Two fragile
The heroines were not afraid to stand up for the victim and demanded that the outrage stop. But the hooligans listened to no one and tried to escape. Then Tatyana and Lyubov blocked their way, entered into a confrontation (Tatyana even sustained bodily injuries), detained them and handed them over to the arriving police officers.
Along with civilians, one police officer was honored that day. Konstantin Dubinsky currently serves in the OMON of the PPSM regiment of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Executive Committee. His choice of profession is natural, because five years ago, then a first-year student of the law faculty of VSU named after P. Masherov, he performed an act. Konstantin heard cries for help from two women at a bus stop, one of whom had her bag snatched by a thief. The guy ran after the offender, grabbed him and held him until the police arrived.
Whoever you are – an officer on duty or a random witness, unprepared and untrained – such actions primarily characterize you as a person. Do not remain indifferent to the misfortune of others. Even your smallest help can be decisive.
