Head of the Presidential Administration Natalya Kochanova took part in the laying of the Alley of Memory in Polotsk
The linden alley, dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from Nazi invaders, was planted on the territory of the Mound of Immortality, which was erected in 1966 in memory of the heroes who died in the war. Natalya Kochanova called this place significant for the people of Polotsk, recalling how her parents, along with thousands of city residents, participated in the construction of this truly people's memorial, and how she herself came here annually to celebrate May 9th.
Natalya Ivanovna noted that she treats her native land with reverence, and this feeling deepens with the years. She maintains contact with the residents of Polotsk, in particular, she constantly inquires about the affairs of the veterans' organization, which actively works to educate the younger generation. The participation of Great Patriotic War veterans in laying the alley at the Mound of Immortality was also symbolic.
– I am very pleased to work with these wonderful people, – noted the Head of Administration. – They went through the war, rebuilt our country after difficult times, and today they planted trees with us. But the most important thing is that the cadets worked alongside us. Our youth are adopting the experience of a good attitude towards their country and the tradition of being together during a subbotnik (volunteer work day) to contribute a part of their labor to the improvement of their native Belarus.
During the republican subbotnik, the park area of the Mound of Immortality was also cleaned, wild shrubs were cleared, lighting was restored, asphalt pavement, sidewalks, and road fencing were repaired, and trash bins and containers were installed and painted. 108 linden saplings were planted in the Alley of Memory – one for each war veteran living in the district.
– Let's meet when the trees are big, – said Great Patriotic War participant Alexander Rastopchin to Natalia Kochanova. The Head of Administration wished the veterans high spirits, good health, and long life. "Vitebskiye Vesti".
