Regional Governor Nikolai Sherstnev congratulated military unit 5524 on its unit day

Military Unit 5524 of the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus celebrated its Day. The Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee, Nikolai Sherstnev, visited the unit, familiarized himself with the material and technical base, and presented Certificates of Honor to distinguished servicemen.

Congratulating those present on the 28th anniversary of the unit's establishment, the head of the region noted that the unit had undergone tremendous transformations over the years. Society believes in the servicemen and understands that it is under reliable protection. If the army and internal troops perform their duty honestly, bravely, and with dignity, society will work peacefully and create new values – which is what the country needs. Nikolai Sherstnev wished the servicemen and their families peace and well-being.

From the personnel, the unit commander, Colonel Alexei Kulik, presented Nikolai Sherstnev with a gift – a uniform set.

Military Unit 5524 was formed in Vitebsk in 1993 as the 2nd Separate Special Militia Battalion. The servicemen assist territorial internal affairs bodies in maintaining law and order. They perform tasks related to escorting convicted and detained persons. The unit guards five correctional institutions and, together with their administration, supervises convicted persons. Sapper-pyrotechnic units inspect reports of the installation or discovery of explosive devices, as well as destroy unexploded ordnance from the Great Patriotic War. Together with dog handlers, combat missions are carried out by 46 service dogs, which are used, among other things, in the search for narcotic and psychotropic substances.
