The Head of the Vitebsk Region, Nikolai Shersnev, took part in a solemn event dedicated to the Day of National Unity

- September 17 became a landmark date for Belarus. On this day in 1939, as a result of the liberation campaign of the Red Army, the reunification of the Western and Eastern parts of the country began. The faster time moves away from the events of those years, the more effort is required to protect historical truth from the influence of political conjuring. Some try to speculate on facts, giving them different shades depending on the imposed rhetoric. We see that today attempts are being made from the outside to divide our nation again, to draw a line between Belarusians based on hatred and misunderstanding, rejection and anger. This can only be prevented together. Rejection of any external pressure, caring attitude towards the Motherland, concern for it – these are the supporting structures of Belarusian statehood, our genetic and cultural code, – said Nikolai Sherstnev.
