The main event of Mother's Week in the Vitebsk region will be the awarding of the regional prize named after Hero of the Soviet Union Zinaida Tusnolobova-Marchenko. The solemn ceremony will traditionally be held on October 14, on Mother's Day, the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee's Ideology Department informed a BELTA correspondent. Honoring women in anticipation of Mother's Day is taking place in all districts and cities of the region. Cultural and educational institutions of the region have prepared special concert and literary programs. And family clubs of the region have organized their own celebration these days - "Let the ship of happiness sail." It should be noted that about 80 family clubs operate in the club institutions of the Vitebsk region alone, with over 500 participants. The regional prize named after Zinaida Tusnolobova-Marchenko will be awarded to 26 women this year. Among them are heads of enterprises and housewives, young and respected female workers. However, they are all united by one thing - loyalty to their maternal duty. After all, among them are mothers with many children and women who have taken orphans to raise. The first laureates of the regional prize were named in 1987. Since then, the difficult maternal labor of more than 200 women has been recognized with this award. Hero of the Soviet Union Zinaida Tusnolobova-Marchenko was born in the Rossony district. She went to the front as a nurse before she turned 22. In 8 months, she carried 128 wounded soldiers from the battlefield. In February 1943, she was seriously wounded, losing both arms and legs. Together with her front-line soldier husband, she raised two children and actively participated in public work. Zinaida Tusnolobova-Marchenko became the third Soviet nurse to be awarded the Florence Nightingale Medal. -0-
