Hlybokaye was recognized as the City of Culture of Belarus in 2018 among district centers

Глубокое признано Городом культуры Беларуси 2018 года среди райцентров
Glubokoye has been recognized as the winner of the republican competition "City of Culture" in the nomination "Best City of District Subordination" based on the results of 2018.

Last year, cultural institutions held about 5.9 thousand events dedicated to state and professional holidays, and memorable dates.

– In the Year of Small Motherland, we tried to pay more attention to preserving and enhancing cultural heritage, and to involve as many residents of the region as possible in this, – emphasized the Chairman of the Glubokoye District Executive Committee, Oleg Morkhat. – In the future, we are preparing no less ambitious projects for the improvement and landscaping of settlements.

For example, in 2018, a poetry park and a new recreation area "Vysota" appeared. As part of the sixth international festival "Cherry Festival," which can rightly be called the visiting card of the cultural life of the district, the Cherry Queen's residence was opened, a sports and play area on Raduzhnaya Street, and a festival flower of friendship was installed in the city center.

Many were impressed by the colorful "Dudarski Rey," the district competition of models "Monuments and Obelisks of Glubochina," and the festival of young talents "Merry Voices." Another historical object of the district, the grave of the artist, ethnographer, folklorist, archaeologist Yuzef Drozdoch, whose 130th birthday was celebrated last autumn, was included in the list of historical and cultural heritage of Belarus.

The head of the department of ideological work, culture, and youth affairs of the district executive committee, Lyudmila Karnilovich, noted that when summing up the results, the competent jury took into account many aspects, including the artistic level of the cultural events held, the implementation of innovative cultural projects, and financial and economic indicators.

The jury members also could not fail to consider the colossal work being done in the district for the aesthetic education of the younger generation, and how rapidly the cross-border cultural ties of Glubokoye residents with residents of neighboring countries are developing. In particular, the Ludza Art School in Latvia and the Glubokoye Children's Art School named after Yuzef Drozdoch have been cooperating for more than five years.

In 2018, their new project application "Young Craftsmen for the Preservation and Development of Traditional Skills through Cross-Border Cooperation between the Regions of Latvia, Lithuania, and Belarus" received approval.

The Glubokoye Historical and Ethnographic Museum, as part of the project "Promoting Local Development in the Republic of Belarus," funded by the EU and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme, completed the local initiative "Creating Virtual Tours of the Region's Historical and Cultural Heritage."

By the way, by a decision of the district executive committee, 2018 was declared the Year of Preservation of the Historical Heritage of Glubokoye. A plan of events was approved, including planting trees and shrubs, and improving settlements and cemeteries. Organizations in the district provided assistance in tidying up the areas around Orthodox and Catholic shrines.

In due time, the residents of Glubokoye successfully hosted the Day of Belarusian Written Language, and the celebration of the city's 600th anniversary was equally colorful. Glubokoye, along with Gomel, Lida, and Mozyr, won the republican review-competition for sanitary condition and improvement of settlements. Later, the "Brigantina" children's playground, located near Lake Kagalnoye, was named the best among similar recreational areas in the country.

Among the latest significant achievements are winning the republican review-competition "High-Culture Land Use, Improvement of Machine Yards, Livestock Farms, and Complexes," and the recognition of Glubokoye as the best region for business development among the regions of Vitebsk Oblast with a population of less than 50,000 people. Based on the results of 2017, the district was included in the regional and republican Honor Boards.

According to Oleg Morkhat, the main task is not to lose the momentum gained, to continue working just as cohesively and effectively. Natives of the lake region, who, like the residents of the district, want to see their beloved city clean, beautiful, and immersed in the greenery of parks and gardens, promise to help bring some of these ideas to life.
