The Glubokoye archive was the first among the zonal archives of Belarus to publish a collection of documents on the history of the district
October 5, Vitebsk / Sergey Kochetov - BELTA/. The Glubokoye Zonal Archive has become the first regional archive in Belarus to implement a project to publish a collection of documents dedicated to the history of the district. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by the Main Department of Justice of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee.
The collection "Post-war Development of the Glubokoye District" includes over 170 documents from the State Archive of the Vitebsk Region, and the zonal archives of Glubokoye and Polotsk, with most of the documents being published for the first time. Considering the title of the publication, the chronological period chosen is from the liberation of the district in 1944 to 1950, when the five-year plan for the restoration and development of the national economy of the BSSR was being completed. The collection presents resolutions, orders, minutes of meetings of regional and district authorities and administrations, reference and information documents, and letters characterizing the establishment of enterprises, institutions, and state administration bodies of the district in the difficult post-war conditions.
The main goal of publishing the collection is to introduce archival documents reflecting the development of the district in the post-war years into scientific circulation and make them accessible to a wide range of readers. The publication will be in demand by researchers, scholars, and a wide range of ordinary readers, and will contribute to the development of interest in the history of their native region, helping to better understand the events of 1944-1950 that took place in the Glubokoye District. The project was implemented on the initiative and under the leadership of the director of the zonal archive in Glubokoye, Neli Borovik, with the financial support of the district executive committee.
The Glubokoye District was formed on January 15, 1940, and became part of the Vileyka Region. The restoration of the villagers' way of life was interrupted by the war in 1941, and thousands of natives of the district participated in the fight against the German fascist invaders. During the occupation, 17 settlements were completely destroyed in Glubokoye, along with more than 870 households, which were home to over 8,500 people. Almost 1,400 residents of Glubokoye died on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. On July 3, 1944, the Glubokoye District was liberated by the troops of the 1st Baltic Front during Operation Bagration. From September 1944, the district was included in the newly formed Polotsk Region. The documents presented in the collection indicate that the restoration of the district's war-torn economy lasted more than five years, and there was a shortage of experienced personnel and equipment. -0-
