The Glubokoye cannery plans to procure about 1.5 thousand tons of green peas
August 18, Vitebsk / Sergey Kochetov - BELTA /. OJSC "Glubokoye Cannery" plans to procure about 1.5 thousand tons of green peas, Deputy Director of the enterprise for agriculture and procurement Vladimir Krivorotov told a BELTA correspondent.
This year, 608 hectares out of 690 hectares occupied by vegetables and greens have been allocated for peas. Glubokoye processors have received a good harvest of legumes, with yields reaching 60 centners per hectare in some fields. However, unfavorable weather conditions are affecting the harvesting campaign. "We could not avoid losses of raw peas, about 270 hectares of sown areas have actually been withdrawn from harvesting - somewhere the crop has become waterlogged and is not suitable for processing, and some fields have become impassable for the pea harvester," noted Vladimir Krivorotov. Currently, about 220 hectares of crops have been harvested, with a yield of 37 centners per hectare. The enterprise has already sent over 800 tons of raw materials for processing. Peas are still ripening on an area of about 150 hectares, and processors expect to collect more than 400 tons from these lands.
The enterprise intends to produce about 5 million conventional cans of canned green peas this year.
The cannery also grows cabbage, carrots, beets, and potatoes on its own and leased lands. About 80 hectares have been allocated for these crops. Own agricultural production allows reducing the cost of processed raw materials and eliminating the need for additional vegetable supplies. Moreover, the harvest prospects for these crops this year will allow not only to meet the plant's needs for such raw materials but also to sell part of the vegetables to external consumers.
Glubokoye Cannery was established in 1948, and the unitary enterprise was corporatized in 2003. The plant specializes in the production of fruit and vegetable products, canned peas, juices, and concentrates. -0-
