The Year of Entrepreneurship will require increased responsibility from managers, believes the mayor of Novopolotsk

The Year of Entrepreneurship will require managers to adopt non-standard management approaches and increased responsibility for the state of affairs at the enterprise. This point of view was expressed to a BELTA correspondent by the Chairperson of the Novopolotsk City Executive Committee, Natalya Kochanova. The heads of state-owned enterprises have been tasked with increasing export potential. This can only be achieved if products that are in demand, high-quality, and competitively priced are produced. To this end, it is necessary to revise the cost structure, possibly getting rid of unused areas. This primarily applies to enterprises such as the "Izmeritel" plant and the "BVK" plant. According to the mayor, they have sufficient potential to attract foreign investors and jointly create new production facilities with them. For the petrochemical city, a relevant task is to reduce the share of the oil refining industry in the total production volume, so the opening of new production facilities focused on the output of innovative, export-oriented products will be supported by local authorities. The settlement of Borovukha, which enjoys preferences granted to businesses in small and medium-sized towns, adjoins Novopolotsk. Thanks to this, 53 small enterprises are already operating in the settlement. This year, 17 unused facilities of the former military town are to be put into operation. According to Natalya Kochanova, the authorities are interested in transferring these facilities to businesses for the creation of enterprises. In the Year of Entrepreneurship, Novopolotsk authorities intend to take a pragmatic approach to developing international contacts with their twin cities and offer them participation in economic projects. The first step has already been taken jointly with the city of Ludza (Latvia). The city administrations of the two cities are preparing an application for participation in the EU project "Lithuania-Latvia-Belarus" and intend to develop the sports infrastructure of educational institutions. "In the Year of Entrepreneurship, the most important indicators of economic efficiency will be production profitability and labor productivity of everyone: from manager to worker," emphasized Natalya Kochanova. -0-
