A one-year-old girl drowned in the Dubrovno district

August 1, Vitebsk / Sergey Kochetov - BELTA/. A girl who turned one year and seven months old in July drowned in the Dubrovno district, the regional organization of OSVOD informed a BELTA correspondent.

The tragedy occurred in a private house in the village of Chizhovka on July 28. A barrel, into which water from the roof was drained, stood near the residential building. The toddler somehow climbed to the edge of the container and fell inside.

A total of seven people drowned in the Vitebsk region over the past week. Of the total number of fatalities, five residents of the region drowned while swimming, three of whom were intoxicated. In addition, a 65-year-old man died in the Vitebsk district while setting fishing nets on Lake Zhuzhelo.

OSVOD employees managed to rescue six people, including two minors. More than 70 people, including 20 minors, received a warning about the inadmissibility of violating water safety rules.

According to operational data, 88 people have drowned in the region since the beginning of the year, including nine children, which is almost 40% less than in the same period in 2010. Despite the emerging trend of a decrease in the number of deaths on the water, OSVOD specialists remind of the need for increased vigilance and adequate behavior on water bodies, and complete refusal to consume alcohol when отдыхать near water.
