February 25, Vitebsk / Sergei Kochetov - BELTA /. The traditional alpine skiing tournament in memory of the honorary citizen of Vitebsk Maria Chumanihina will bring together more than 60 athletes from Belarus and Russia on February 26 in the suburbs of Vitebsk, said Alexander Khatkevich, chairman of the sports club council of OJSC "Dolomit", to a BELTA correspondent.
Representatives of sports schools from Bryansk, Smolensk, Minsk and Vitebsk are expected to compete on the slope in the urban settlement of Ruba. Competitions will be held among men and women in four age groups, starting with promising athletes born in 1998 and ending with racers born in 1992 and older.
Tournament participants will compete for the strongest in giant slalom. On a 300 m long and 25 m wide slope (with a height difference of 25 degrees), they will have to pass through 14 gates. Winners and prize-winners will be determined based on the results of two scoring attempts. For the awards ceremony for the best athletes, the organizers have prepared diplomas, medals, and souvenirs.
The tournament, which has been held since 2005, is organized by the administration of the Zheleznodorozhny district of Vitebsk, OJSC "Dolomit", and the public association "Vitebsk Alpine Skiing".-0-
