City dwellers will help Vitebsk region farmers with the harvest

About 1 thousand drivers and machine operators from enterprises and organizations in cities and district centers of the Vitebsk region will become grain growers for the harvest period, the Committee for Agriculture and Food of the regional executive committee reported.

More than 7.2 thousand machine operators will be involved in all types of agricultural work during the harvesting of grain and leguminous crops in the region's farms.

"During this responsible period of the harvest, drivers and machine operators from sponsoring organizations, enterprises and institutions of cities and district centers are sent to help the villagers. A total of about 1 thousand people are involved," the committee noted. The region's grain harvesting combine fleet numbers over 1,600 units, with about 2.5 thousand people working as senior combine operators and assistants. The harvest in the region is gaining momentum. As of the morning of July 26, 9.4 thousand hectares of grain fields have been mowed, which is 2.7% of the total area of grain and leguminous crops. The region's grain growers have threshed 27.6 thousand tons of grain, with an average yield of 29.4 centners per hectare. In total, the region's agrarians will have to harvest more than 350 thousand hectares of grain.
