State social support in Belarus will be refocused on families with two children
July 7, Minsk /Elena Prus - BELTA/. State social support in Belarus will be reoriented towards families with two children. This was announced today at a press conference by Marina Artyomenko, Head of the Department of Population, Gender and Family Policy of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, as reported by a BELTA correspondent.
Household surveys show that with the birth of each subsequent child, the risk of a family falling into the low-income category increases. "It is advisable to provide more substantial support to families upon the birth of a second child and to families raising two children," believes Marina Artyomenko. "However, this does not mean that large families will be deprived of support."
The representative of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection informed that, according to the sample survey of households, in January-May of the current year, 70.2% of families with children under 18 were low-income, while among families without children, this figure was 23.1%. Among single-person households, only 6.7% were low-income. -0-
