The State Committee on Science and Technology of Belarus presented computer equipment to cadets from Luzhesno for the New Year

Государственный комитет по науке и технологиям Беларуси подарил к Новому году кадетам из Лужесно компьютерную технику
The State Committee on Science and Technology of Belarus, as part of the "Our Children" charity event, congratulated the cadets of the Vitebsk Cadet School (Luzhesno village in the suburbs of Vitebsk) on the New Year. Chairman of the SCST Alexander Shumilin presented the cadets with a certificate for computer equipment and books about the Great Patriotic War.

The meeting of the school's cadets with Alexander Shumilin took place in the library and was not limited to presenting gifts. The Chairman of the Committee informed the senior students about the latest news in world and domestic science, interesting historical facts, and current areas of activity of the SCST. The cadets showed keen interest in innovative developments, asked questions about the development of science, international cooperation and joint projects with other countries, unique developments by Belarusian scientists, and promising areas in which Belarusians are trendsetters. An engaging dialogue lasted for over an hour, after which the cadets thanked Alexander Shumilin and invited him for a tour of the school. The guest was shown how the educational institution had transformed since his previous visit – they proudly presented the new dormitory building, where the cadets moved in last winter, and talked about their achievements.

The "Our Children" charity New Year event has been held in Belarus from December 10, 2015, to January 10, 2016. Traditionally, heads of republican government bodies, local executive and administrative bodies, concerns, banks, and public associations visit children's boarding institutions, foster and adoptive families, family-type orphanages, families raising children with disabilities, correctional and developmental education and rehabilitation centers, and children's hospitals. Participants of the event congratulate children on New Year and Christmas and present them with gifts.

The Vitebsk Cadet School State Educational Institution was established in 2011 on the basis of the Luzhesnyan Boarding School-Gymnasium for Gifted and Talented Children of the Vitebsk Region, which had its history dating back to 1994. In accordance with the state program "Children of Belarus", a cultural and recreational center was built on the territory of the gymnasium in 2009. It includes an assembly hall with 275 seats, a sports hall for team sports with 300 seats, a 25-meter swimming pool with five lanes and a modern water purification system, and fitness rooms.

The Cadet School is an institution of general secondary education that also fulfills the tasks of providing students (cadets) with basic knowledge and skills necessary for service in the Armed Forces, Border Guard Service, Internal Troops, Investigative Committee, State Committee of Forensic Examinations, Internal Affairs bodies, and emergency services. Young men and women in grades 8-11 study at the school.
