Polotsk prepares a festival with games in honor of its 1147th anniversary

The ancient city traditionally celebrates its next birthday with numerous festive events, the Ideological Work Department of the Polotsk City Executive Committee informed a BELTA correspondent. The first day of celebrations, May 16, is held under the banner of the Unified Olympic Day and opened with a city-wide sports competition. And all the museums of the Polotsk National Museum-Reserve will pick up the baton of the International Museum Day and hold the Museum Night. Throughout the week, residents can expect theatrical performances, the opening of an amusement park, and even a pioneer May Day event on May 19. On the birthday of the pioneer organization, Polotsk declared a day of pioneer friendship. The Polotsk History Days on May 23-24 will be marked by the medieval culture festival "Rubon". Warriors of the Belarusian land will meet in the jousting arena to elect the strongest, and then he will lead his detachment to capture the enemy castle. The festival organizers promise to show a grand reconstruction of a medieval battle. By May 29, all of Polotsk will be in a festive mood. This day will be marked by a procession and ball of graduates, and the opening of the museum of Honored Artist of Belarus, member of the Union of Artists and the Union of Architects of the Republic of Belarus, Ninel Schastnaya. The culmination of the day will be the concert "Masterpieces of Opera Art at the Walls of Ancient Sophia."
