Igor Karpenko: Orsha will become a platform for the development of youth projects and initiatives
"Throughout the year, many regional and republican events will be held in the city. Orsha will become a platform for the support and development of various youth projects and initiatives. Youth is the most active, motivated and educated part of society. It is a strategic resource for the development of our country, it will multiply the economic and intellectual potential of Belarus, preserve its unique historical and cultural heritage, and take care of its peaceful future," Igor Karpenko noted. "This year, the city will host the Geography Olympiad, and the issue of holding the republican festival "Last Bell" here in the Ice Palace is being worked out. This and other projects will give a certain impetus for the movement of youth from Orsha to other regions and vice versa, and will promote the exchange of experience between young people."
The Minister of Education added that on September 1, a resource center will be opened at the Orsha Mechanical and Economic College, where laboratories and classrooms will be equipped with the latest technology. The college has also opened two new specialties that will be in demand at Orsha factories. The symbolic key of the youth capital was handed over by the Deputy Chairman of the Mogilev City Executive Committee Alla Galushko to the Chairman of the Orsha District Executive Committee Igor Isachenko. He, in turn, handed it over to representatives of the youth of the Orsha region. "This status of our city obliges us to a lot. I want to assure you that we will worthily carry it through the whole year. There are 28,000 young people in our region, with such strength and potential, we will achieve a lot," Igor Isachenko noted.
For two days (February 28 - March 1), the events of the festival "Youth Capital" are being held in Orsha.
The status of the youth capital is awarded to a city based on the results of a republican competition for a period of one year, during which it gets the opportunity to demonstrate its commitment to modern youth culture, best practices in developing the social, economic, and political activity of youth. The youth capital implements new ideas, innovative projects, and becomes a role model for the further development of other cities. The "Youth Capital of Belarus" competition is held for the fourth consecutive year. The first to be awarded this honorary title were Baranovichi, in 2017 the baton was passed to Polotsk, and last year - to Mogilev. The Ministry of Education acts as the organizer and ideological inspirer of the competition.
