December 3, Vitebsk /Sergey Kochetov - BELTA/. The names of outstanding athletes from the Vitebsk region have been immortalized in the Alley of Olympic Glory and the Regional Sports Hall of Fame. The opening of these facilities took place today in Vitebsk during a seminar of the National Olympic Committee of Belarus dedicated to the development of Olympic education in the region, reports a BELTA correspondent.

"These athletes created the sporting glory of the country and forever entered the annals of the world Olympic movement, serving as a worthy example for new generations of Belarusian athletes and youth," noted NOC Director General Yaroslav Barichko at the alley's opening ceremony.

The Alley of Olympic Glory is located on the grounds near the Central Sports Complex in the regional center. Its main element is 20 stylized commemorative medals of Vitebsk athletes who became champions and prize-winners of the Olympic Games in different years. Vitebsk Olympians, who specially came to Vitebsk from all corners of the world, took part in the ceremony of opening the busts with commemorative awards. The alley also features "blank spots" for placing commemorative medals of future Vitebsk champions. The decorative design of the alley is made using modern materials and includes Olympic symbolism.

The Regional Hall of Sports Glory is located directly within the Central Sports Complex. Its exhibits are dedicated to the history of sports development in the Vitebsk region and the Olympic movement, telling about the participation of Vitebsk athletes in the Games and the achievements of athletes who, although they did not become Olympic medalists, made a significant contribution to the development and popularization of sports.

Many great athletes have already responded to the initiative of the regional representative office of the NOC and have donated their awards and personal belongings to the hall. Among the exhibits are the "yellow" jersey of the renowned biathlete Svetlana Paramigina, in which she won the World Cup in 1994, and the championship belt of the famous boxer Vyacheslav Yanovsky, won at the Seoul Olympics. When visiting the hall, you can also learn about sports in general, and about the activities of the National Olympic Committee and its regional representative office. The design of the hall and the information presented are selected in such a way as to primarily interest children and teenagers, foster an interest in sports in the younger generation, a need for physical education, and also develop Olympic education.

The project was implemented by the Representative Office of the NOC of Belarus in the Vitebsk Region with the support of the Regional Executive Committee and the City Executive Committee.-0-
