The school in Navalukomlya was named after Hero of the Soviet Union Fyodor Ozmitel
Vladimir Vladimirovich noted that over the past four years, about one hundred educational institutions in the region have been granted the right to bear the names of outstanding individuals. This is the third school in the Chashniki District to be named after a Hero of the Soviet Union.
– The idea was born when our students, together with their teachers, participated in a republican project to perpetuate the memory of Heroes of the Soviet Union, – said the school principal, Tatyana Shakradenok. – Since there is a monument to Fyodor Ozmitel in our city, we began to study the history of his life and heroic feat. One of the significant arguments was that he graduated from a pedagogical college before the war, meaning he was our colleague. It is a great honor for us that our educational institution will bear his name.
It was symbolic that the event took place in the year of Fyodor Ozmitel's 105th birthday. The event itself was timed to coincide with the Day of Liberation of the Chashniki District from the Nazi invaders. The Great Patriotic War has long ended, destroyed cities and villages have been rebuilt, and monuments to the soldiers who defeated fascism have been erected. However, the old wounds of veterans still ache, and their descendants cherish the memory of their feats, emphasized Alexander Bykov, Chairman of the Chashniki District Executive Committee.
– In 1977, a monument to Fyodor Ozmitel was solemnly opened in Novolukoml, and a city boulevard was named after him. Today, one of the city's schools bears his name. The students here are representatives of a generation that does not know the horrors of war. But the honor bestowed upon the educational institution obliges a lot. First of all, it means emulating heroes and being worthy of the memory of a man who left such a significant mark, – he added.
During the war years, Fyodor Ozmitel participated in battles on the Northern Front, near Leningrad and Moscow. In January 1942, he was sent behind enemy lines as the commander of the special-purpose partisan detachment "Grozny," which operated in the Orsha – Vitebsk – Smolensk region. After returning to the Great Land, he led a new special-purpose partisan detachment "Grom," which was part of the USSR NKGB operational group "Artur" and carried out reconnaissance and sabotage operations in the Vitebsk, Minsk regions, as well as in Minsk itself.
In June 1944, during the breakthrough of the blockade at Lake Palik, Senior Lieutenant Ozmitel was seriously wounded and remained to cover the retreat of the partisans. When his ammunition ran out, he blew himself and the enemy up with a bundle of grenades.
