An information and educational center will open in the Republican Tuberculosis Hospital IK-12 in Orsha

April 8, Minsk /BELTA/. An information and education center will open on April 9 at the Republican Tuberculosis Hospital IK-12 (Orsha). This was reported to BELTA by the UNDP project "Support for the State Program "Tuberculosis" in the Republic of Belarus". The creation of the information and education center is provided for by a component of the project to support anti-tuberculosis measures in the penitentiary system. The center's premises have been renovated and equipped with furniture and office equipment. In places of detention, the incidence of tuberculosis is 7-8 times higher than the national average. Therefore, great attention is paid to improving the quality of anti-tuberculosis care for people in the criminal executive system (CES). To ensure that such care is provided competently and in a timely manner, it is necessary to improve staff training. The organization of an information and education center will allow for regular professional development of CES medical staff on the diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis. The ceremony will be attended by the UN/UNDP Resident Representative in the Republic of Belarus Antonius Broek, UNDP Project Manager Anna Chernysheva, heads and staff of the project "Support for the State Program "Tuberculosis" in the Republic of Belarus", as well as representatives of the Department of Corrections of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Recall that in January 2009, a similar center was opened at the state institution "Research Institute of Pulmonology and Phthisiology" of the Ministry of Health. Its task is to strengthen the institutional capacity of the national tuberculosis service and the primary health care network by increasing the knowledge and professional training of specialists in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of tuberculosis. The curricula have been developed in accordance with the requirements of the World Health Organization (WHO). The center has acquired the necessary equipment and furniture, and is connected to the Internet. Doctors, nurses, and laboratory technicians from anti-tuberculosis institutions and the general health network participate in training seminars on modern methods of tuberculosis prevention, detection, and treatment. -0-
