The BRSM project "Kniga.by" online flash mob starts in Vitebsk
The Republican patriotic project of BRSM "Kniga.by" is gaining momentum in the Vitebsk region: several thematic events will be held during the celebration of the 1042nd anniversary of Vitebsk, as reported by Dmitry Turoнок, the second secretary of the regional committee of BRSM.
In particular, on June 24, performances by poets, writers, and students from secondary schools – winners of the "Paetychny Vitsebsk" poetry contests – will be organized on Pushkin Street. More than 70 BRSM activists representing the region in the "Kniga.by" project will participate.
"Members of the regional branch of the Union of Writers of Belarus will attend the poetry meeting, and the young people will be able to take photos with them. This way, we will launch an online flash mob to popularize our contemporary writers among the youth," noted Dmitry Turoнок. The essence of the campaign is that young people post photos on social networks with the hashtags #bookcrossing_brsm, #БРСМ, showing them with Belarusian writers and their books. The best works will be included in a collection of calendars and widely presented on the online resources of the NGO "BRSM". "Kniga.by" is a new joint project of the Belarusian Republican Youth Union and the Union of Writers of Belarus, aimed at fostering in young people a need for books, reading, spiritual and intellectual growth, self-awareness, and self-education. The project is being implemented throughout 2016 and includes several main areas: bookcrossing, meetings with writers, the essay contest "Flowers of the Great Victory" (the submission of creative works ended on June 15, with 17 entries sent from the Vitebsk region), and informational work.
"In particular, bookcrossing shelves have already been installed in every district of the Vitebsk region in places with a large concentration of young people. Anyone can take a book with the project's logo for use. Until the end of the year, territorial committees of BRSM will organize monthly master classes, seminars, thematic round tables, literary discussions, meetings with prominent cultural figures, and performances by Belarusian writers," explained Dmitry Turoнок.
