56% of business entities use Internet services in the Vitebsk region

Only 56% of business entities use Internet services in the Vitebsk region, Gennady Grebnev, chairman of the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee's Economy Committee, informed at a session of the Vitebsk Oblast Council of Deputies today. Only 41% of enterprises use broadband access, while the rest still use dial-up. At the same time, the region has registered almost 35,000 Internet subscribers and 2.3 thousand IP TV subscribers. The share of communication services in the total volume of services is 23.5%. The program for the development of the service sector of the Vitebsk region for 2009-2010, which was approved by the deputies of the regional council today, provides for the creation of conditions for the introduction of modern data transmission technologies and the development of information resources. Thus, in 2010, it is planned to increase the number of broadband access ports to 45.8 thousand and to generate additional revenue of Br9.5 billion from this. -0-
