In 2009, internet access will become available in another 45 rural post offices in the Vitebsk region
May 27, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. The Vitebsk branch of the Republican Unitary Enterprise "Belpochta" will expand Internet access services this year and will create 45 access points at its rural post offices, the director of the Vitebsk branch, Sergey Maksak, told a BELTA correspondent.
Currently, it is possible to access the World Wide Web in 189 post offices throughout the region. The global telecommunication network of information and computing resources has reached agro-towns, urban-type settlements, and district centers. The largest number of access points among rural areas has been created by the Dokshitsy and Dubrovno district post offices - 16 and 12, respectively. Equipment kits for providing the new service are purchased at the expense of the Ministry of Communications. As Sergey Maksak noted, despite the fact that the new service began to develop actively only since 2006, there is a demand for it in rural areas.
The Vitebsk branch of "Belpochta" provides the population with more than 100 types of services: from traditional communication services to freight transportation and ordering goods through catalogs. For January-April of the current year, the revenue from their sale amounted to almost Br19 million, which is 12.4% more than in the same period last year. -0-
