November 14, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. For the first time in Vitebsk, light-dynamic and musical fountains have appeared. The testing of the fountains became a pleasant surprise for the townspeople on this inclement November day, a BELTA correspondent reports.
Two musical and two light-dynamic fountains adorn the largest square in Belarus - Victory Square, the reconstruction of which has been underway for four months.
As Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Alexander Kosinets told reporters, the work on the first phase of the square's reconstruction has entered its final stage. In the near future, LED screens will be installed here, and updated brand stores of Vitebsk manufacturers and catering facilities will open their doors along the perimeter of the square. The grand opening of Victory Square is planned to coincide with the 65th anniversary of the Great Victory and to be held on May 9 next year.
The Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee noted that the reconstruction of the first phase cost Br16 billion. The invested funds will pay off within two years thanks to the developed service infrastructure and the large number of retail outlets. According to preliminary estimates, their annual turnover will be about Br10 billion.
The reconstruction of Victory Square in Vitebsk will continue. The next stage will affect the renowned monument in honor of soldiers, partisans and underground fighters, and then the embankment of the Western Dvina will be put in order.
The new look of the square will give the ancient city a modern appearance. Mass city events will be held here. Architects and designers have provided a platform for installing a temporary stage, a place for the city's New Year tree, and a zone for children's attractions.
At the same time, Alexander Kosinets emphasized that the improvement of Vitebsk is not limited to the center. Outlying streets have been transformed. Courtyards in residential areas are being capital repaired. This year, Br3 billion has been allocated for the improvement of courtyards in the regional center.
Significant volumes of work on tidying up the city have not affected the implementation of the housing program. 160 thousand square meters of housing have already been commissioned in Vitebsk, and another 50 thousand square meters will be commissioned by the end of the year.
