Outsider art is featured at an exhibition in Polotsk
October 30, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. The "Outsider Art" exhibition opened today at the art gallery of the National Polotsk Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve, Tatiana Birulya, head of the art studio of the Minsk Psychoneurological Boarding School No. 2, told a BELTA correspondent.
The unusual exhibition features over 70 works. However, visitors will not see works by professional painters among them. Their authors are outsiders, patients of the Minsk Psychoneurological Boarding School No. 2. Through abstract and thematic compositions, they have expressed their thoughts and emotions. "The works, mostly executed in a warm color palette, are filled with quiet sadness, bright sorrow - a wide range of feelings. Only a few compositions are gloomy, bearing the imprint of suffering and pain," the interlocutor said.
The art project is designed to draw public attention to people in need of help. In addition, it is one of the first steps in developing the "Outsider Art" movement in Belarus, an art direction that has already gained wide popularity in Europe. To this end, after Polotsk, the exhibition will travel to Belarusian cities, during which it will be supplemented and updated. At the end of 2010 - the beginning of 2011, the exhibition will be displayed at the Museum of Outsider Art in Moscow. Everyone who feels like an outsider and is not an artist is invited to participate in the project.
In Polotsk, the exhibition will be open until December 1. The curator of the project is Fyodor Yastreb, a member of the Belarusian Union of Artists and chairman of the International Guild of Painters. -0-
