The history of Belarus holds many examples of the true courage of its people – Nikolai Sherstnev

The history of Belarus holds many examples of the people's true courage shown on their native land. This opinion was expressed today by the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Nikolai Sherstnev, at a festive rally dedicated to the 77th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders during the Great Patriotic War and the Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus.

Nikolai Sherstnev noted that every nation has fateful days and events. They cause a special spiritual uplift and unity of citizens:

– Today, Belarus celebrates Independence Day – the main state holiday. It is associated with the most important event in the country's history – the day when peace returned to the land ravaged by the Nazi occupation.
"Independence has a very high price, it was not given cheaply to anyone. The 20th century and its dramatic events were undoubtedly decisive here. The Great Patriotic War became the most severe trial for the people. History holds many examples of true courage shown on Belarusian soil," – emphasized the head of the region.

As the most striking examples, he cited the tank battle near Senno in July 1941, the first combat baptism of the legendary "Katyusha," which took place near Orsha on July 14, 1941. Under the command of Captain Ivan Flerov, the battery fired a salvo at the railway junction occupied by Nazi troops. As a result of the powerful fire strike, enemy echelons and ammunition were destroyed, and the enemy's plans were thwarted. Another example of resilience is the defense of Polotsk. Holding back the onslaught of the largest German group moving towards Moscow, the defenders of the Fatherland stopped the enemy for almost a month in the battles near Polotsk.

Nikolai Sherstnev paid special attention to the fact that representatives of different nationalities have long lived together peacefully and worked together on Belarusian land:

– Tolerance, mutual respect, and goodwill are characteristic features of the Belarusian people. In the Year of National Unity, these qualities have become a kind of beacon in carrying out good deeds. Positive changes are occurring in the real sector of the economy, in the social sphereere. Annually, new educational, cultural, and sports facilities are opened. Continuous technical re-equipment is underway in enterprises, the agricultural sector, and healthcare institutions.

One of the most important priorities of the current five-year plan for the socio-economic development of the country is the formation of strong regions. In the Vitebsk region, since the beginning of the year, it has been possible to attract over 950 million rubles of investments from various sources into the economy. This is a crucial indicator ensuring the sustainable development of the region, growth in prosperity, and the standard of living of the population. One-third of industrial products are innovative. This is the highest indicator in the republic. Transport infrastructure is actively developing, including in the regional center. Amidst challenging economic conditions, the northern region ensures growth in agricultural production.households, stated the governor.
Nikolai Sherstnev emphasized that the concrete deeds of every Belarusian are a guarantee of the country's stable development. "In the new realities, we face the same task – to protect the freedom and independence of our native land," he is convinced.

Words of gratitude and low

Nikolai Sherstnev expressed his deep gratitude for the Victory and his many years of work to the veterans. He gave special words of encouragement to the youth:

– Today, you must be worthy of the historical relay passed to us by the generation of Victors. Cherish what has been achieved – peace, ancestral traditions, and our values. Cherish the history that we rightfully take pride in today. When people cherish and multiply the good reputation of the Fatherland, the state with such a people is strong and invincible.

Diverse events dedicated to Independence Day are taking place today everywhere in all regions of the Vitebsk region. The cycle of festive events will conclude with the "Let's Sing the Anthem Together" campaign, and in the regional center – with a colorful fireworks display.
