Due to heavy rains, the grain harvest has been suspended in the Vitebsk region
August 9, Vitebsk / Sergey Kochetov - BELTA/. Heavy rains in the Vitebsk region have led to the suspension of grain harvesting, the agricultural and food committee of the regional executive committee informed a BELTA correspondent.
The rains began on August 8 in the afternoon from the western districts, and by nightfall covered almost the entire region. As a result, the pace of harvesting decreased by almost 2 times compared to the previous day, and on August 8 alone, the region's agrarians managed to cut just over 9.5 thousand hectares, while almost 20 thousand hectares were harvested the day before. The harvesting campaign will resume under favorable weather conditions, the committee noted.
According to Vitebskoblgidromet, an active frontal division with waves moved through the region in the afternoon of August 8. In total, over the past day and night, most of the region received from one to one and a half decade norms of precipitation (24-35 mm). Only in some places (Sharkovshchina, Yezershche of Gorodok district, Orsha) the amount of precipitation did not exceed 10-17 mm, while the rest of the territory was flooded, with the maximum amount of precipitation of 35 mm falling in Polotsk.
Subsequently, the atmospheric front will move across Northern Europe to the territory of Russia, and its influence on the weather in the Vitebsk region will weaken. According to forecasts, the probability of short-term rains will persist in the next two days, and the temperature background will be moderate, ranging from 16-21 degrees Celsius during the day. -0-
