The election of Polotsk as the cultural capital of Belarus is a sign of recognition from descendants - N. Galperovich
January 20, Minsk / Yulia Vanina - BELTA /. The election of Polotsk as the cultural capital of Belarus is a sign of appreciation for great people like Euphrosyne of Polotsk, Francysk Skaryna and Symeon of Polotsk, as well as for many generations of Polotsk residents who, with their creativity, have created an unforgettable aura of spirituality in this city. This opinion was expressed in an interview with a BELTA correspondent by the chairman of the Polotsk community, honorary member of the Union of Writers of Belarus, general director of the radio station "Belarus" of the Belteleradiocompany Naum Galperovich.
"Polotsk is the cradle of Belarusian statehood, science and culture," said Naum Galperovich. Its election as the cultural capital is a recognition not only of the merits of great figures of past centuries, but also of those who created and worked in the city quite recently. It was in Polotsk that Yanka Zhurba, Petrus Brovka, Taras Khadkevich, Eduard Samuylyonok, Ales Savitsky took their first steps in literature, and the fate of the famous artist Ivan Khrutsky is connected with this city. And today, many famous artists, poets, writers, scientists, journalists who were born, studied, and took their first creative steps in the city on the Dvina River live and work in Minsk, Moscow, and St. Petersburg.
"That is why the Polotsk community is taking the most direct part in the preparation of the event held this year," the interlocutor noted. According to Naum Galperovich, on January 21, the day of the opening, and throughout 2010, writers, composers, performers and artists who are part of the community will organize meetings in city organizations, performances, and exhibition presentations. "They will present their works and books to their hometown, pay tribute to their filial love for their small homeland," emphasized the chairman of the Polotsk community. -0-
