How the flowerbeds that adorned the pedestrian street of Braslav were created
Recently, the residents of Braslav had another reason to stroll along the city's pedestrian street. The fact is that 9 flowerbeds, original in their design, have appeared in a straight line along the stadium. This is the result of a regional professional skills competition among green construction workers of the housing and communal services system.
For the sixth year in a row, it has been organized by the main department of housing and communal services of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee together with the industry trade union. However, the location of the annual competition is new each time, as it is timed to coincide with the celebration of the results of the work of the Dvina region's agricultural workers. That is why this year it was held in Braslav. Nine teams from Vitebsk, Polotsk and Novopolotsk, Verkhnedvinsk, Chashniki, Postavy, Glubokoye, Dokshitsy, and Braslav first submitted sketches of their flowerbeds to the organizing committee, and then, on equally sized plots of land, prepared in advance by "Braslav-kommunalnik," they brought them to life. This, however, was preceded by theory with ten test questions on landscaping rules and safety regulations, but the practical work is, undoubtedly, the most important.
For two hours, the contestants were constantly busy creating their floral compositions. Black patches of land were filled with unusual shapes and colors before our eyes. Finally, original flowerbeds with decorative elements that emphasize the peculiarities of Belarusian identity and the places of their small homeland were presented for the jury's consideration.
The diploma and cup of winners were awarded to the team of the state enterprise "Novopolotsk Spetsavtobaza" for the composition "My Small Homeland," ahead of the utility workers from Postavy by several points. The competition of professional skills also saw its debutant: the flowerbed of "Braslavkommunalnik" with elements of nature untouched by civilization attracted the attention of the jury, which decided that the residents of Braslav rightfully deserved honor on the third step of the podium.
