Bright sun is one of the main dangers for drivers in the off-season. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by the traffic police department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus.
"The sun causes a lot of difficulties for motorists in any season, but it is especially dangerous in spring. The main trouble is that, reflecting off puddles encountered at every step and even just off wet asphalt, it can blind the driver for a while or, at least, make him squint, shield his eyes from the light with his hand, seek protection under the sun visors and in the shade of the rearview mirror. Unwashed windows after winter do not add comfort either," the traffic police said. To effectively combat glare, the windshield should be thoroughly washed, both on the outside and inside. If people smoke in the car, it is best to wash the glass with special liquids and agents. New windshield wipers should be installed on the car. The wipers should not leave any streaks on the glass after the second, at the latest - the third sweep. In addition, the traffic police advised not to drain the antifreeze from the washer fluid reservoir yet - it can still freeze at night.
At the same time, the spring sun causes another danger - unexpectedly appearing icy patches. "From March to almost the end of April, it freezes almost every day in the evening, and the puddles that have spread like seas during the day freeze over. Most often, ice forms along the edges of the road, at traffic lights, in low-lying areas, in forest areas and near reservoirs. These places require special attention," the traffic police noted.
Traditionally, on weekends, in order to ensure road safety, the State Automobile Inspectorate will operate in an enhanced mode. Employees of the special unit of the road patrol service "Strela" will conduct operations on the roads of Slonim, Dyatlovo, Rechitsa, Uzda, Pukhovichi districts, as well as in the cities of Molodechno and Mikashevichi. Personnel of the traffic police battalions of the traffic police departments of the regional executive committees will provide assistance in ensuring road safety to territorial units in regions with the most unfavorable accident rates.
By the forces of the separate special platoon of the traffic police "Bug" of the traffic police department of the Brest Regional Executive Committee, operations will be carried out in Drogichinsky, Ivanovsky and Ivacevichsky districts. Specialized raids against violators of stopping and parking rules will be conducted on the territory of the Brest region. Massive operations of the main republican highways M-1/E-30 (Brest-Minsk-border of Russia), M-10 (border of Russia-Gomel-Kobrin), M-12 (Kobrin-border of Ukraine), R-6 (Ivacevichi-Pinsk-Stolin), R-17 (Brest-border of Ukraine), R-83 (Brest-Kamenets-Belovezhskaya Pushcha National Park), R-85 (Slonim-Vysokoye), R-88 (Zhytkavichy-Davyd-Haradok-border of Ukraine) are being organized.
In the Vitebsk region, inspectors will deploy additional forces to combat drunk drivers.
In the Gomel region, the complex of preventive measures "Motorcyclist" is underway. The traffic police monitor compliance with traffic rules by drivers of two-wheeled iron horses. Special attention will be paid to the roads of Yel'sky, Lel'chytsy, Narovlyansky, Zhytkavichy and Petrikovsky districts on weekends.
The operations in Grodno and Grodno district will be intensified.
The Mogilev regional State Automobile Inspectorate, with the forces of territorial traffic police units, will conduct special operations "Filter", and will also tighten control in Krichev, Kostyukovichi and Klimovichi districts.
In the Minsk region, the R-23 (Minsk-Mikashevichi) road, as well as the roads of the Soligorsk district, will be under special attention.
In addition, on April 12 and 14, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, the State Automobile Inspectorate will conduct a large-scale operation on the following roads: Minsk-Mogilev, Mogilev-Bobruisk, Russia border-Vitebsk-Gomel-Ukraine border, Mogilev-Cherikov-Kostyukovichi, Minsk-Gomel, Russia border-Krichev-Bobruisk-Ivatsevichi, Mogilev-Chausy-Mstislavl, Cherikov-Krasnopolye-Khotimsk, Cherikov-Krasnopolye-Russia border, Krichev-Orsha-Lepel, Tolochin-Krugloye-Nezhkovo, Klichev-Nesjata-Usokhi, and Priisno-Mostok-Dribin-Gorki. In regions with conditions conducive to flooding of the roadway by meltwater and river overflows, State Automobile Inspectorate patrols will be organized to monitor and promptly respond to the prevailing road situation.
