Yuri Antonov considers 'Eurovision' a spectacle for housewives
July 9, Vitebsk /Elena Prus - BELTA/. People's Artist of Russia, Vice-President of the International Union of Variety Art Figures, Yuri Antonov considers the Eurovision contest a spectacle for housewives, for people who want to have fun. The popular singer expressed this opinion today at a press conference as part of the "Slavianski Bazaar" in Vitebsk, BELTA correspondent reports.
"I have never liked Eurovision, this festival has never evoked a good attitude in me," said Yuri Antonov. "And the further this festival goes, the worse it gets."
Yuri Antonov initially perceived Eurovision as a humorous festival and does not understand how it can be taken seriously, as it is a festival of amateur performance, where professional artists appear only by chance.
At the same time, the singer admitted that Eurovision is distinguished by professional organization and high-quality filming. However, he categorically dislikes the artists' repertoire – there are few good songs.
Answering journalists' questions about whether he would like to participate in Eurovision or not, Yuri Antonov laughed: "I am a grandfather for this festival."
He admitted that he generally dislikes shows that feature many, many artists, including unprofessional ones. Among the young singers, Yuri Antonov singled out Sergey Lazarev; he also finds Leonid Agutin, Igor Surukhanov, and Alexander Marshal pleasant.
The singer doubts that a new Yuri Antonov can emerge in the variety art scene. And, by the way, he does not want his son and daughter to follow in their father's footsteps. -0-
