A Vitebsk resident has been sentenced to six years in prison for a traffic accident that resulted in two deaths
A Vitebsk resident has been sentenced to a long prison term for a traffic accident that resulted in two deaths, as reported to a BELTA correspondent by Aleksey Tolkachev, senior prosecutor of the department for supervision of the legality of court decisions in criminal cases of the Vitebsk Regional Prosecutor's Office.
In May of this year, at night, a 29-year-old man, while intoxicated, was giving a ride to a friend and a girl. Driving at high speed (120 km/h) along Moskovsky Avenue, he lost control while crossing the tram tracks and overturned. As a result of the accident, both passengers died, while the driver was not seriously injured.
For the death of two people and driving a vehicle while intoxicated, the perpetrator of the accident was sentenced to six years of imprisonment in a settlement colony and was deprived of his driver's license for five years.
Aleksey Tolkachev emphasized that the main figure in the case is not the owner of the "Mercedes" involved in the accident. It turned out to be a businessman from the Vitebsk region who entrusted this person with selling the car through an acquaintance. "As the owner of a source of increased danger – the car – he has also been held responsible for his negligent attitude towards his property. By the decision of the Pervomaisky District Court of Vitebsk, the owner of the car was ordered to pay Br100 million to the closest relatives of each of the deceased," the senior prosecutor added.
